WWE fans booing the president yet popping for a man named in active sex trafficking litigation shows how fucked their moral compass is. #SummerSlam

John Cena's botched retirement demonstrates the cognitive dissonance between what wrestling actually is and what WWE has taught the masses it is. Once you've spat on the artform for two decades, you can't expect the crowd to accept a core tradition like losing your final match.

You know John Cena's retirement was bad when WWE fans and real graps fans can mutually agree it was shite. And that's all that really needs to be said.

To anybody whose weekend was ruined by John Cena's tap out, I'm sorry, but this is what you get for glazing a company who actively works to disappoint you. Y'all are the Cowboys fans of entertainment. Maybe one day you'll learn. In the meantime, don't forget to buy Minute Maid.

Sting's retirement match subverted expectations and was universally beloved. John Cena's retirement match subverted expectations and is getting dunked on, massively. You can only disappoint your customer for so long before they stop buying.

"he should've passed out" "no, him tapping out was so poetic" MISSING THE POINT. The fans didn't turn on John Cena's retirement because he tapped. They turned because he lost. You can't have Big Match John steamroll everyone for 20+ years and then have him die on his shield.

Folks in that arena tonight were told their whole lives that John Cena doesn't lose big matches, spent thousands on tickets and travel, sat through an otherwise garbage event just to see their hero lose pathetically. That's the sin, here. Not the finish, but the outcome.

The craziest part about John Cena's retirement debacle? The ONE TIME that WWE gets a booking decision objectively correct is the time it blows up in their face. Shitting all over Cody's Mania angle? Naw, y'all didn't have this energy for that. That's how you know John the GOAT.

I just feel bad for John Cena, the performer. There were so many paths to an ending where he gets the respectful, glorious send off he deserves. Yet, they found one of few paths to an all-out fan revolt. It's the reaction he's used to, but it shouldn't have ended like that.

Paul Levesque has repeatedly told WWE fans that the best way to enjoy his circus is to cheer at the right moments because none of it actually matters. Nobody in that arena cheered John Cena's retirement, a moment that should have actually mattered.

Creative team takes pride in fostering an openly adversarial relationship with their consumers. Same can be said for other media companies, but man, the smugness and passive aggressiveness H showed tonight was vile. Product was already unwatchable. Now it's unwatchable and mean.
