Belarus Red Cross

Pleased to address virtually the National Volunteer Forum of Belarus Red Cross. Volunteers are critical to save lives and to respond to every emergency. Volunteers make the idea of the Red Cross and Red Crescent a reality every day. Thank you, Belarus Red Cross volunteers!
Right now Belarus Red Cross emergency response teams are responding to flooding in Vitebsk Region. In the regional center, the river has overflowed its banks, flooding houses with increasing numbers of people affected.
Thousands have been affected as heavy floods continue in Belarus. Dozens had to evacuate from homes. Supporting people with food and hygiene items, Belarus Red Cross teams also help salvaging their belongings.
I have a plan for my next visit to Minsk, and it’s a walk in the Central Botanical Garden. 15 hydrangeas were planted here as per the number of Florence Nightingale Medal Laureates in Belarus, and the Laureates themselves, Belarus Red Cross nurses, took part. Why hydrangeas?
And..an apple tree was planted as a symbol of the Belarus Red Cross Medical and Social Service "Dapamoga." It provides shade on a hot day, the flowers are beautiful in spring, and the apples are great to eat! As a former nurse I am inspired by the work of the nurses of BRCS!
Preparedness is key to ensure fast and effective emergency response. The Belarus Red Cross teams have taken part in field drills alongside State emergency services performing rescue operations in hard to reach forests and swamps. Well done, Belarus Red Cross! 👏
