Do you know that spending time with horses is good for mental health? Thanks to the Belarus Red Cross volunteers, children with disabilities and orphans could learn the basics of horse-riding and enjoy the time outdoors. "These animals are so beautiful!", the participant says.

All of the roads in this village in Belarus are blocked because of the flooding. The Belarus Red Cross team has delivered water and food to the residents so they have supplies while being cut from the mainland.

With winter well on its way, many people who have fled Ukraine are struggling with resources to stay warm. Supported by the Belarus Red Cross and the local forestry, this displaced woman has got enough firewood to warm up her home. Her neighbours will help to saw it.

Right now Belarus Red Cross emergency response teams are responding to flooding in Vitebsk Region. In the regional center, the river has overflowed its banks, flooding houses with increasing numbers of people affected.

As we celebrate International Nurses Day, I thank all Red Cross and Red Crescent nurses for their incredible work and commitment #fromtheheart. Nurses like Liudmila from the Belarus Red Cross and Irina from the Russian Red Cross make a difference in the lives of so many people.

This International Nurses Day, we congratulate #fromtheheart Elena Filipovich, a nurse from the Belarus Red Cross, on receiving the Florence Nightingale Medal. She has devoted 30 years of her life to nursing and been at the epicenter of the COVID-19 response in Belarus. 👏👏👏

I have a plan for my next visit to Minsk, and it’s a walk in the Central Botanical Garden. 15 hydrangeas were planted here as per the number of Florence Nightingale Medal Laureates in Belarus, and the Laureates themselves, Belarus Red Cross nurses, took part. Why hydrangeas?

Hydrangeas are a symbol of humility, sincerity, and hope. Florists say they are unique as they can be combined with any flower, and we find it so relevant for the work of a nurse, who has to find an approach to care for patients and relatives in the most complex situations.

And..an apple tree was planted as a symbol of the Belarus Red Cross Medical and Social Service "Dapamoga." It provides shade on a hot day, the flowers are beautiful in spring, and the apples are great to eat! As a former nurse I am inspired by the work of the nurses of BRCS!

Preparedness is key to ensure fast and effective emergency response. The Belarus Red Cross teams have taken part in field drills alongside State emergency services performing rescue operations in hard to reach forests and swamps. Well done, Belarus Red Cross! 👏
