Mark Horowitz Sadly Robert Howard has a different opinion. He knows about the placebo effect but still prescribes? IMHO that’s so much worse! I can’t get my head around it.

The public is convinced that madness is caused more by bad things happening than by genetics or chemical imbalances in the brain. They are in line with the scientific evidence. The psychiatric leaders deliberately ignore it. Download my new book for free: bit.ly/3Cvobip

The most harmful aspect of psychiatry is not its worldview – that human problems are ‘medical conditions’ – but its authority. The problem is we’ve invested this one narrow perspective on human experience with the boundless authority that we have. *That* is what must be attacked.

Justin Garson (@justin_garson) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Tod🔻 Totally agree – we need a deeper analysis of psychiatry’s social function. Clearly we would not have invested in them the authority that we have unless they were performing some kind of function in maintaining the social status quo.

My response to difficult life events was normal. My distress & despair wasn’t a medical disorder. I didn’t have a chemical imbalance which could be rectified by a medication. I regret sharing my vulnerability with a psychiatrist who pathologized my humanness, which led to injury.

Great to be a part of this much needed initiative The Psychotropic Deprescribing Council Psychotropic Deprescribing Council to help educate clinicians and the public about safe deprescribing of psychiatric medications. Congrats to @altostrata and the board for all their hard work.

The prescription makes the doctor feel better, rather than the patient. Could this be part of why antidepressant use continues to rise despite so little evidence of benefit and increasingly worrying adverse effects (as well as Pharmaceutical influence etc).
