Happy Work Together Wednesday as part of Week of the Young Child! Teaching our children cooperation skills and how to work with others is a great early lesson to learn. What projects can you do together to practice working as a team? #WOYC21 NAEYC #worktogether

Thank you BCBSRI volunteers who stickered, sorted, boxed, & delivered high-quality diversity/inclusion books to 11 healthcare sites. A generous grant from BCBSRI supported these books which feature diverse characters (race/ethnicity, LGBTQIA+, body types and sizes, disabilities).

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! When reading aloud to young children, point out different expressions. Talk about feeling happy or feeling sad. What does it feel like during a big noisy thunderstorm? Is it scary? What does that expression look like?

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! When reading with young children, use the book to interact by holding the book to their hands, and explore different textures in "touch and feel" books. Who doesn't like to drag their fingers across a fuzzy baby duck?

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Bilingual books are a great way to introduce a second language and expand children's cultural awareness. While reading a bilingual book won’t make your kid fluent in a new language, it’s a great way to introduce and reinforce new sounds and words.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Newborns can see a lot, especially close up. Read with your baby and talk about the pictures in the books. Baby may not seem interested at first, but the more you read, the more baby will respond.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Babies LOVE music. Hearing rhymes helps babies learn the sounds that make up words, like d-o-g. This is very important when they start learning to read. One of our favorite rhyme books also showcases physical differences in a respectful representation.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Repetition and routines are very important as young children learn to make sense of the world around them. Try make reading as part of the bedtime routine. And yes, re-reading the same book is important for vocabulary, reading fluency, and more.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Babies love to look at baby faces, and they love to hear your voice. When reading to your baby, you can point to pictures of baby faces and talk about the different emotions.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Books are an excellent resource for educating young children about accepting others and accepting themselves. It's never too early to telegraph the value of being uniquely oneself, starting at an early age.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Babies aren’t the best at holding conversations. But they are fabulous listeners. When reading aloud, if baby makes a sound, pause, and respond as if you just heard the most amazing thing in the world.

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! It's never too early to show young children how to build relationships. And what better way than with a book about a friendship with an elephant?

#ReadTogether Rhode Island! Babies learn to recognize familiar voices during the first weeks of life. Tired of reading board books? Switch it up with a story book. Or tell your own story. What were things like when you were little? What did you like to do?
