I’m a fan of classic ‘word sort’ activities like these, but I do believe a small tweak can make them more effective at promoting orthographic mapping. A very small🧵 on why I think they’re powerful and a small, simple addition to make them even better!

🧵Mixed Age Classes. I've taught in mixed age classes for 21 yrs. I have led in schools with mixed age, & supported 100s of schools with mixed age classes. Put simply, approaches used for single age classes are 99% of the time simply not appropriate. It's its own unique approach.

I had another great morning with my maths hub. Still the best CPD I've been part of. It was great to have my group watch me teach - actually thoroughly enjoyable - and a useful model to bring to share more teaching with the staff in my own school. Thanks Emma Parr & BBO Maths Hub
