As critical as I have been of the IHSA lately, I firmly believe the following: They alone have the authority to crown a legitimate state champion, and no one else does.

If an event winner has emerged from a multi round structure that systematically includes every school in the state, then they are a state champ. Otherwise they are just a meet winner.

With Illinois High School Association #IHSA head sheets for the Girls state track meet out, I have to wonder how we ended up with only 2 heats of all 3 distance races in 3A. 2 4x8 heats with 31 teams means H2 has 16 teams. I don’t think this is a good idea. Thoughts?

FINALLY… After many runner-up finishes at State, it’s Annika Swan of St. Ignatius declared the victor! She wins the 3A 800m in 2:10.08!
