#Alcohol #Tobacco and other substance use among Women is not well-researched in 🇮🇳 context Here are 4 important points about Substance Use Disorders among #Women 1⃣ SUDs in women and men differ concerning cause, course, comorbidities, and treatment uptake and retention.

2⃣ #Women experience more #adverse 🔸medical 🔸psychiatric 🔸social consequences associated with substance use, and they are of greater severity compared with men.

3⃣ Universal screening is important for identifying women with SUD, and attention must be given to language in screening instruments to minimise stigmatising women with SUD. 🔸This is especially important for pregnant women with SUDs.

4⃣ A gender gap exists in SUD treatment, with women being less likely to engage and remain in treatment compared with men, and gender-specific treatments may help address this gap. Reference: doi.org/10.1016/j.psc.…
