Walked into Mrs. Parkerβs Gr1 classroom Lake Avenue Public School to see she and students manipulating phonemes and building words using some large letter tiles on the board. What an awesome activity to build phonetic and phonemic awareness. Manipulating phonemes is a huge part of reading.
Even in 2 weeks, we can see that small group, targeted instruction is making a difference. Kids are reading more fluently and confidently. Educators are prioritizing this time with kids. My HWDSB Reading Specialists heart is happy! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ cc Suzana Milinovich Mrs. Burnagiel

This moment brought me so much joy today! Suzana Milinovich, our @hwdsb principal, was reading with some kids & reinforcing skills taught in small groups, while Mrs. Bird & I took targeted groups. It takes a village! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Going back to the trusty Class Act kit to build some phonemic awareness with these Gr1 students. The activities also allow for vocabulary building and growing some background knowledge. Lake Avenue Public School
