This morning, first-grade students at Karen Western practiced learning their letter sounds. They used motion and song to help memorize the sounds each letter makes to help with their phonetics lesson.

Third-grade students at Karen Western recently put on their detective hats while investigating a mock "crime scene" at school. One classroom was transformed into a "crime scene," where students had to analyze various clues & make inferences to determine who stole the cookies.

KW staff dressed up for superhero day! We think our staff are superheros everyday!

Kindergarten students at Karen Western participated in activities in which they looked at the height, width, and had to make an hypothesis as to whether a pumpkin would sink or float. Students then cleaned out the pumpkin, counted all the seeds, & decorated a mini pumpkin.

Ms. Prather, a first-grade teacher at Karen Western, has incorporated teaching sign language for all the letters, letter sounds, & words to every student in her class. Her students practice using sign language throughout the school & school community.

6th grade is working together to develop inferences of various pictures projected on the board.

We had a late grocery delivery today Karen Western. Several students were riding bikes in front of the school and they helped me and the driver get everything into the kitchen. KW kids are the best helpers today! Sysco Lincoln Ralston Schools

At KW, we are working to build success together through an emphasis on our attitude (towards school, towards our peers, and towards adults), a focus on our academics, and being mindful of our attendance.

We had 4 classes last week with 99% atrendance!! Mrs. Wright's 1st grade, Mrs. Weber's 3rd grade, Mrs. Yowell's 6th grade, and Mrs. Frans 6th grade. Our winners TIED with ZERO tardies...congratulations to Mrs. Yowell and Mrs Frans classes on winning last week's Cardinal Cup!

1st grade students in Mrs. Wright's class are working on author's chair today. Students are reading their stories and learning how to provide feedback to each other!

Our Principal Advisory Council students got to attend ESU3 today for a day of team building, leadership training, and learning!
