Our new MP, Shivani Raja MP, promised to keep Diwali at two events. Our City Mayor, Leicester City Mayor, has been dead set on cutting one of the biggest celebrations outside of India. If the politicians don’t stand up for our communities, what do we vote them in for? 🙄

A kick in the teeth to communities in Leicester. I’m sure that £10m spent on Haymarket or the £££ on unnecessary roadworks is really looking silly now…

What a difference a year makes… This time last year up to 30k people filled our Golden Mile to watch the Diwali lights being switched on! Today…closed shops and empty restaurants 😬 Glad to have kicked off Diwali with Diane Cank and Rita Patel on Belgrave Road 🪔

I was there when the community first started the Diwali celebrations A huge community success that Leicester City Council sought to take over… Now? We’ve got closed shops and empty restaurants ❌ But we’re still celebrating because we WILL make this event a success again 🎉
