Yes there has been a large growth in energy supplied from renewable sources, but this is far smaller than the growth in energy demand.

This thing everyone talks about called 'transition' is, as far as I am able to understand, a point at which the three biggest color bands here, the brown, the black, and the light blue, shrink to nothing, and other bands replace them entirely.

“Batteries are bad” is not a good argument for nuclear.

Batteries are cheap, getting cheaper, and scaling rapidly. The argument is wrong from fundamentals and it’s becoming increasingly absurd in the face of mounting empirical evidence.

The world’s biggest exporter of olive oil, Spain, has halved its production due to drought and extreme heat, increasing its price (at origin!) 112% since 2022.

It’s happening to other food crops too. Olive oil today, everything else soon.

The ship has largely sailed on limiting warming to 1.5C at this point, barring us getting very lucky with low climate sensitivity or actively geoengineering the climate.

But there still are viable paths to limit warming to below 2C this century, as shown in the figure below:
