Many pollies love the excuse Australians/Queenslanders travel vast distances. The fact is most trips in Brisbane are less than 5kms, a perfect distance to ride. The only thing holding back more trips being done on a bike is a lack of infrastructure and pollies making the excuses!

Let's reallocate road space on arterial routes and have a median strip with tree planting ASAP. Reduce car lanes, put egregated bike anes and proper bus only lanes. Use spare car space for urban tree canopy. Tree cover essential to dealing with coming heatwaves.

The evidence piles up. People from across areas of expertise all point to the same thing. Make it easier and safer to not drive, do that and it's win win for everyone. Jo Haylen MP Felicity Wilson MP 🌏 Zali Steggall MP @bicyclensw theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

we know slowand less traffic is essential for active transport and physical health and now for social, cognitive and emotional development. How much more evidence needed to de-prioritise traffic and prioritise our kids Mosman Council NSW Health Transport for NSW Northern Beaches Council

To meet climate change goals, obesity, physical and mental health goals, urban heat island, water run off, disabled access goals.... all of it needs a redesign of the public space currently given to cars.

A built environment focussed around cars and convenience robbing children of their right to roam, explore and play. Creating PH crisis of road trauma, inactivity, mental health and contributing to wider issue of climate change.

Takes a jolt from outside to wake people up sometimes. This is pretty damning and the regular experience of those who share the roads with huge aggressive trucks and their drivers.

Great to see Mosman Council vote last night to approve 2xnew 40kph streets, a step in the right direction towards recognising our streets are places for people, not just vehicles. Hopefully more to follow and eventually some 30kph. BetterStreets Australia @bicyclensw

“We built cities all over America that are designed for automobiles and not designed for people... Our housing costs are high, in part because of the way that we've designed our cities." - Gov. Doug Burgum North Dakota comments during the NGA winter meetings

We in Australia following US and Canada down this path unless the gov regulate these vehicles, licensing, advertising and insurance sharpish.

On train to Canberra for the marathon tomorrow. 65mins late and worsening. Coupled with fact driving would've been free for me with my EV there is a lot of work to do to make trains more convenient. Much more likely to drive next time, bad outcome.
