#Cancer waiting times, while slightly better than the previous month, are still unacceptably long.

Look out for more QualityWatch analysis of cancer diagnosis/treatment coming later this month. 👀

There is a downward trend in terms of the number of people waiting for planned treatment - the waiting list has now been decreasing in small increments for 6 months in a row. 📉

But if it continued at the current rate it would take many years to get back to pre-pandemic levels.

The average length of waits to start planned #NHS treatment was 15 weeks in January this year. ⌛️

Since the start of the pandemic, this length of average wait has only been exceeded on one other occasion (July 2020).

Today’s release of #NHS performance stats shows modest, yet welcome, improvements for emergency care and overall waiting lists. But, behind the headlines, all's far from well. We should be very concerned about how many people with cancer are taking too long to start treatment.🧵:

Ambulance response times have improved since the winter of 2022, but still don’t meet their respective targets.

Emergency calls for things like heart attacks (Category 2) were responded to in 45 minutes on average in December 2023. 🚑

A&E departments have seen painfully long waiting times over the last three years.

In December 2023, over 140,000 people waited over 4 hours to be admitted to a ward after the decision for admission was made. 🏥
