First report of the Lifelong Education Commission. Lots of good stuff on levelling up and re-skilling/up skilling and a recommendation to establish a single, national Careers Service to improve the visibility and quality of CEIAG for learners of all ages. Hurrah!

What are the implications of the budget for career guidance? According to the IFS, health spending has increased 42% since 2010, while education spending has only risen by 3%. There is something very wrong here: surely this lack of investment undercuts the levelling up agenda?

Sir John Armitt, former chair of C&G, is right - we need an education and skills commission to advise government. The skills system is crying out for a long term strategy. Skills provision is not all on the shoulders of education, it should be part of every employers cost base.

Great to take part in the YP roundtable debate today. Everyone agreed that while the building blocks are in place, there are still gaps and challenges. A new careers strategy, embracing a Career Guidance Guarantee would provide clarity for citizens and clear targets for providers
