In our new study, we estimate that overall population immunity (vaccine induced+naturally acquired) in the US was 62.0% as of July 15th. Not enough to go back to normal, esp. with the continued emergence of highly transmissible #COVID19 variants. w/ Dr. Alison Galvani

Good news for parents this morning. For the first time, we have vaccine data for children age 5-11. It is early and still needs to be peer-reviewed, but looks good. "Safe” and a “robust” antibody response." And, this age group makes up ~9% of the population. @Pfizer

We projected the impact of increasing vaccination rate in 10 US states, incl 5 in the south past the Delta surge peak. Accelerating vaccination in these states can save 6000+ lives between Sept and March. It's still not too late to save lives! w/ Dr. Alison Galvani @EricSchneiderMD

Our new study shows that a total of over 22000 deaths and 98,000 hospitalizations could have been prevented in Texas and Florida by the end of July if those two states had vaccination coverage of ~74% like New England states. w/ Dr. Alison Galvani Prof Peter Hotez MD PhD DSc(hon) @EricSchneiderMD

So now with Dr. Alison Galvani Yale School of Public Health we've actually measured the adverse health impact of this antiscience aggression and rhetoric. As we've just reported in The Lancet Infectious Diseases that's 16,235 unnecessary deaths in state of Florida thelancet.com/journals/lanin…

The pandemic has highlighted the increased risk of airborne transmission risk in INDOOR environments w/out ventilation. But it turns out we know very little about rates of indoor activity and how this varies by location. A 🧵on a new study in which we start to fill this gap (1/)
