This used to be my other account, but now it's my only one. History, big machines, small machines, bunkers, countryside, WW2, architecture, churches.

I've just realised that I'm basing my entire predictions for the Dutch team in this World Cup upon their performances between 1974 and 1978.

Shortly to be reframed. From my late father's collection, a couple of mounted photos from the 1948 Locomotive Exchange Trials. I'm guessing it's from about the same time of the photos. Love the writing on the back too. Sadly, I have no idea where this item originated.

Dad & I used to go to the rifle range mentioned here nearly every Sunday (he worked at Waterloo & health and safety was different then). Whilst he fired his pistols I played on the very same snooker table in the photo. Top fact: Lewis Collins sometimes visited the club to shoot.

TOMORROW or Sunday, come to Brighton. Volk’s Electric Railway (the world’s oldest working electric railway!) has its 140th Birthday Celebrations. Cavalcade! Illuminated tram! Depôt visits! PS I’ve recently been trained to drive by Volks Electric Railway Association VERA; maybe avoid the 13:15 or 13:30 tmrw

I asked Chat GPT to make a merger of Coalbrookdale by Night by Philip James de Loutherbourg, 1801, with Caspar David Friedrich's Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, 1818. I really like the result. Also, I used to go out on a Saturday night.

No wander around London Docklands would be complete without a visit to the Grade II listed Blackwall Tunnel northern ventilation shaft. It was built in 1966 & designed by Terry Farrell - he of the MI6 building in Vauxhall. Sadly Farrell died a couple of weeks ago.

I'm going to petition the government to bring back hanging for those who think it's normal to use the speaker when they're in public and on the phone.

Phil Lucas revisited a skyline they first photographed in 1990, recreating the shot 35 years later from Horizon 22. A striking reminder of how London changes over time.
