Only city-wide rent controls can end the cycle of insecurity trapping London's 3 million renters.

Labour needs to commit to devolve power over rents to the Mayor of London.

Beyond the rings of new-build Fisher Price palaces that are garroting Ashford is a hinterland of shit and litter and something that used to be rural Kent

Spotted Wood End / Bell Green Coventry in BBC This Town: I recall a Cov colleague taking students there for a bit of poverty porn after the '92 riots and kids threw fireworks and rocks at the Uni minibus, which I felt was appropriate and quite justified.

Shocking to hear that the number of these obnoxious screens is set to TRIPLE over the next decade 😱 Blocking pavements, degrading public space, attracting anti-social behaviour - these ads have no place on our streets.

I was able to legitimately inflict The Fall on my students King's Geography in a lecture on Manchester music in Urban Cultural Geography. They didn't look impressed but I was able to tell them that 40 years ago this is precisely what students King's College London wanted. Only £1.60 too

Anti-Stalinist Communist, intellectual figure of May 68, Henri Lefebvre is re-read today as an ecosocialist thinker. His political quest for a balance between radicalism and mass movement is as relevant today as his thought, which is resistant to dogmatism.

Off to Margate tmrw to hear Gareth E. Rees on his new book. Lovely stuff on folk memories of climate change and a nice Bowie joke on page 32 to boot.

Time for solidarity, and also for some govt action else big swathes of UK losing provision in key subjects: many HE providers now in race to bottom, shedding jobs in 'marginal' subjects whilst hoping to pile non existent students into business studies, psychology, criminology

I just opened a book to find a letter from a journal inside reminding me I was supposed to review it. How late do you think a review can be before a journal considers it too late? Is 15 years late acceptable? 🫤
