The statue of Emlyn Hughes in his birthplace of Barrow-In-Furness was erected in 2008, some four years after his untimely death from a brain tumour at the age of 57. Fine player notably with 665 games for Liverpool and 62 England caps. This excellent sculpture is by Chris Kelly.

One of the greatest footballer sculptures is Peter Hodgkinson’s 2004 bronze recreation of the iconic photograph of the Preston North End’s legendary Tom Finney sliding for the ball on a waterlogged Stamford Bridge pitch in 1954.

Few clubs do their history and heritage as well as Preston North End. Proud Preston indeed.

After 627 games for his only club, Blackpool’s legendary defender Jimmy Armfield is rightly celebrated with Les Johnson’s 2011 bronze of him in front of Bloomfield Road and on the end of the Armfield Club, a 2022 mural by Matt Bishop and subsequently enhanced by Big White Frog.
