is essential for developing a sound critical sense and for learning to distinguish truth from falsehood. It helps us work for justice, peace, and respect for Creation while shunning ideologies.

I don't know where this is all heading, but a major reason it's more alarming than under Trump in 2020 is that this time there's complete bipartisan & media consensus that the protests must be suppressed.

During this month of May, may we entrust to the Blessed Virgin Mary our personal and family matters, as well as the suffering of those who fall victim to war. Let us for the Church, all nations, and for peace in Ukraine and the Middle East.

I've written on political dissent & violent policing for 15 years, particularly in NYC. Compared to Tuesday night, I have never witnessed, at the scene of a protest, the use of police power so disproportionate to the type of demonstration taking place. theintercept.com/2024/05/01/nyc…

What does Catholic identity mean for a university like Fordham University? Do Palestinians have inherent human dignity that needs to be upheld? Do they have a right to life?

Ideally, the role of police at protests should be to help protect your right to protest.

BUT, you cannot assume officers will behave in a way that protects your safety or that they will respect your rights even after you assert them.

Here’s what you need to know:

When the NYPD first attacked students at Columbia it ignited a wave of over 100 Gaza solidarity encampments across the country and across the world. You'd think they wouldn't do the same thing again. But we're seeing the reality of a system that knows nothing but violence.

In January, Pax Christi USA filed an amicus brief siding with NJ in its effort to end ICE detention in the state. Unfortunately, the Biden admin sided with CoreCivic. The lower court ruling also provided a potential opportunity for The GEO Group to reopen Delaney Hall to ICE.

Six-year old Hind died alone in a car in Gaza, surrounded by the dead bodies of her immedoate family. Her hours long cries for help were for naught. Those who tried to rescue her were killed. God forgive us.

Let us for Haiti, where a state of emergency is in effect and the population is desperate due to the collapse of the healthcare system, food scarcity, and violence that drives people to flee.
