It's more important for Australia to be a smart country, rather than a 'lucky' one! Bolder investment in R&D and translation into products/tools needed, or we will pay the consequences down the line! Insightful National Press Club address from Sharath Sriram Science & Technology Australia

Excited to be on tarmac and heading to Science Meets Parliament in Canberra! Will be a fish out of water, but looking forward to talking science in a unique forum & learning loads.
Thanks Deakin IPAN for the opportunity to attend.

Great new #systematicreview , expertly led by Stephanie Prince, PhD, on the potential effects of Sedentary Behaviour on CRF. More work needed, but would be interesting population health implications, given known age-related ↓ in CRF, if SB interventions could at least help 'maintain' CRF
Sad to hear about Steve Blair's passing. Paddy Panteleimon ("Paddy") Ekkekakis has put together an apt thread/tribute, summarizing both the positive and less positive aspects. The field loses a giant with a huge, yet wonderfully generous/humble personality. I always enjoyed my interactions with him.
📢Don't miss Charlotte Edwardson on BBC Radio 4's Inside Health at 9:00pm tonight, talking about her #research on the #Health effects of prolonged sitting with James Gallagher and putting him through his paces in one of our #NIHRLeicesterBRC #exercise labs.

Our attempt at summarising the evidence, with still much to be disentangled - distinct mechanisms, interactions, dose-response?
Huge credit to the talented Ana Jéssica Pinto👏
We are very happy to finally share our comprehensive review on 'The Physiology of Sedentary Behavior' in Physiological Reviews. With David Dunstan, nowen, Audrey Bergouignan, Paddy Dempsey, and Applied Physiology & Nutrition Research Group

Physical Activity for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention: Some Is Better Than None, More Is Better, and Earliest Is Best -- diabetesjournals.org/care/article/4…
Thanks Benoit Arsenault for your nice commentary on our recent UK Biobank work on PA and incident Type 2 Diabetes

Listen to Paddy Dempsey discuss with RNZ new research showing that daily exercise equivalent to 11 minute brisk walk enough to reduce risk of early death, but that more #physicalactivity has added health benefits.
#EveryStepMatters

Analysis of data from >30 million people finds that one in ten early deaths could be prevented if everyone managed at least half the NHS recommended level of physical activity.
Dr Leandro Garcia and colleagues report today in British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM).

🌟Doing some #PhysicalActivity is better than none🌟
✅ #Health benefits can be gained from <75 min/week moderate activity
✅Population benefits might be gained from increasing PA levels of inactive people to just half the recommendations

Quantifying the Relationship Between (Device-Measured) Physical Activity Energy Expenditure & Incident Type 2 Diabetes in UK Biobank.
-Linear associations for PAEE & T2D similar across subgroups.
- Evidence for role of PA intensity over & above volume.
