This is a favourite tactic of education academics. They make strong, contestable claims and then frame anyone who challenges them as being divisive and trying to restart the mathematics or reading wars or whatever. Be alert to this tactic, reject it and keep arguing.

1/3 Math education is under the spotlight šŸ”¦ I wrote two articles that were published in national newspapers in the last couple of weeks. Evidence, effective instruction, and math achievement matter. I won't stop talking about it until it's fixed. Links below šŸ‘‡

For evidence-based teaching, start with Rosenshine’s principles of instruction. In my latest Chalk & Talk episode, Tom Sherrington and I go through them in detail....where they come from, why they matter, and what they look like in practice. Links below šŸ‘‡

Turns out if you focus on teaching using evidence-informed pedagogy, children learn more effectively. Every state should be studying what happened here. Calls for equity are meaningless if you don’t focus on the strategies that achieve justice.

Are you able to assist La Trobe University PhD student Najeeba Syeda with her research on #autistic students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds? This is an under-researched group and your insights will be valuable for improving practice. Please see details below:

Three concerns that must not torpedo explicit instruction now - EduResearch Matters What a great overview and myth-buster. Thank you ⁦EduResearch Matters⁩ blog.aare.edu.au/three-concerns…

Does teacher centred teaching reduce inequality? Yes according to this study. Explicit instruction is associated with higher mathematics attainment for low SES pupils, while student centred instruction shows no such equity effect. Takeaways: if the goal is to reduce inequality

My pathway into high-quality reading instruction and its system and policy-level drivers was my two decades of research on vulnerable young people, in particular on their high rates of unidentified language disorders. This research brought Restorative Justice (RJ) onto my radar,

We’ve shared this fluency rubric before and teachers keep coming back to it. Why? Because it helps us see fluency more clearly and gives students more meaningful feedback than speed alone. Several teachers in Friday's NEW episode reference this rubric! ow.ly/pzZ250XT2ZA
