Spent this weekend helping causes that have helped us these last 9 years. Last night it was a fundraiser for the NC State chapter of kesem.org and this morning we “ran” the angelsamongus.org 5K. Big thanks to our friends Kristin & Jerrod for joining us again!

It’s past time we acknowledged that providing all students breakfast and lunch is just one of the costs of operating schools. Distracting hunger is perhaps the foremost barrier to learning for far too many kids.

I moved to Raleigh 30-years ago this week to run the Terrace Twin theater for Carmike Cinemas. Went on to manage 5 other theaters, including the “flagship” Carmike 15, before leaving for public ed in 2006. Still surprised how many skills carried over from one career to the other.

Curious as to why only public school teachers need to be licensed? It’s not like only state-employed engineers or doctors need to be licensed but private industry ones don’t - they ALL have to be licensed. What’s the rationale for making teachers the exception?

I’ve always believed that the goal of studying history isn’t hero-worship or self-aggrandizement, but rather to learn how to avoid repeating the mistakes of those from the past. Studying history serves the same purpose and hones the same skills as writing an after action report.

I just don’t get decorating school bulletin boards (especially ones in common areas) rather than using them for their intended purpose. Personally, I’d rather they look more “wooden utility pole on a college campus” than “Pinterest perfect.”

Still can’t believe my oldest has his first day of high school Heritage High School tomorrow. He’s definitely ready; the staff Heritage Elementary & Heritage Middle did an incredible job preparing him for this moment. Just wish time would slow down a little!

I’m confused as to how some people can be strongly supportive of NC’s Opportunity Scholarship program but be just as strongly opposed to college loan forgiveness. Don’t they amount to the same thing?
