Ah, he knows Jasper is more than adept at handling himself. Esme, however . . . it’s not always as simple to persuade her that their children can adequately hold their own.

It took Carlisle a fair few centuries before he settled, before the concept of family even crossed his mind. It seemed to be little more than an impossible fantasy. As long as the absence never becomes permanent, know that he’ll always be welcomed home with open arms.
