April 1, 1980, still the only ringed Steller's Eider here at Ottenby. The Baltic Sea used to hold a wintering population of this arctic duck, but since 2000 we have seen a sharp decline, probably caused by a shift in wintering grounds due to warmer climate. Photo Staffan Bensch

After adding Ross's Goose (ringed in Canada) last weekend and now a Lesser Scaup, the Ottenby area today reached the milestone of 400 observed bird species! 🍾🥂

A few highlights from this morning. Rustic Bunting, Ring Ouzel, tristis-Chiffchaff and a Wryneck.

A barely fleged, beautiful and rather aberrant Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina). Such odd yellow plumage is usually caused by a melanin deficiency in the bird. #birdringing #birdbanding

It's been a nice wader summer here at Ottenby, and >5000 have been ringed. Most adult birds have passed by now, and the juveniles are taking over - like this beautiful Broad-billed Sandpiper. #birdmigration #birdringing #birdbanding #autumnmigration #ottenby

Results from a recent DNA-analysis of some odd Lesser Whitethroats from the last years was just returned. The star bird - a dark and heavy billed C. c. althaea - represents the third record for Europe! #ottenby #birdringing #birdbanding #birdmigration

During the last few days four Pallas's Leaf Warblers have been ringed, and a fifth (unringed) one is still hanging around in the lighthouse garden. #ottenby #birdringing #birdbanding #birdmigration
