April 1, 1980, still the only ringed Steller's Eider here at Ottenby. The Baltic Sea used to hold a wintering population of this arctic duck, but since 2000 we have seen a sharp decline, probably caused by a shift in wintering grounds due to warmer climate. Photo Staffan Bensch
Yet another cool #motus registration from our Yellow-browed Warblers! Trapped and tagged at #Ottenby on Sep 14 and then recorded on four different receivers around the German bight September 26-28, before disappearing into the Dutch inland. #birdmigration #animaltracking

New MOTUS tower just dropped at Torhamn, Blekinge. Hopefully it will pick up our birds leaving Ottenby Bird Observatory in the fall.
This morning marked the end of the spring season here at Ottenby! During one of the rounds we trapped a Blyth’s Reed Warbler together with its close relatives Common Reed and Marsh Warbler.

Yesterday evening a Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) was trapped and ringed. This was the fifth record of the species for Ottenby.

A good reminder that one should always go past the Helgoland trap when going to bed 🤩We catch only a handful of Tawny owls here every season, so every caught individual is quite special!
