A lot of Canadian blood was spilled in beautiful Sicilian fields like this one. It’s humbling and gratifying to be here on the Walk for Remembrance and Peace as a follow-up to Operation Husky 2018.

We were honoured and privileged to be invited to participate in the Festa di San Filippo in Piazza Armerina. The three hour walk was a good tuneup for tomorrow’s 20 kilometre march to Valguarnera.

Shame about the view 😏. Agira and Assoro, Sicily. Both liberated by the Canadians in hard and brutal combat against seasoned German troops in 1943.

The power of music: a school teacher leading a field trip in Leonforte heard piper Cpl. Thomas Moore of the 1st Canadian Division and asked if he could play for the students. After Thomas played and we took some photos, the teacher explained to the students why we were here.

The money shot from today’s D-Day 75 lunch The Royal Canadian Legion br. 115 in Hudson, courtesy @Stewthebassman: WW2 Canadian Army nurse Maxine Bredt and RCN Lt. Harry Trenholme, who commanded a landing craft ferrying Canadian soldiers to Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. God bless them both.

Better late than never and definitely worth the wait: Remembrance Day pictures of friends in Sicily paying their respects at the Canadian War Cemetery in Agira. Mille grazie Alessandro Lupo.
