Being Black in a field where you are greatly outnumbered layers the toll of being hyper-visible for criticism & invisible for recognition/promotion. It’s a tightrope that leads to increased burnout, worse yet suicide, & has to change.

7 yrs ago I walked down a long hallway during my fellowship interview & saw framed headshots, awards, & book covers on the walls. I was so worried about the heavy lack of diversity. Today I saw an amazing colleague, Onyeka Otugo MD, MPH, featured on that same hallway. I was moved ya'll.
