Today RSPB Frampton Marsh 🌍 with Joe Eckersley & @otleybirder: honestly one of my best UK birding days ever. 72sp in four hours with lifer Bonaparte’s plus 17 🗓️☑️ including three Cranes flying over a Red-breasted Goose and Black-winged Stilt, Yellowlegs & Black Tern from the car park.

Back from a long weekend in North Wales, mostly Anglesey. Good to catch up with a few old favourites on my first visit since 2021 and a successful first try for Red Squirrel at Llangefni.

Fairly brief but good views of Hartlepool’s Dark-eyed Junco this morning with @otleybirder, an excellent birthday lifer. A little look around the headland in the afternoon turned into some impromptu rockpooling. teesbirds

Epic day at Spurn (mostly) with The Considerate Birders featuring 78 species, Collared Flycatcher lifers all round (🇬🇧✅309), wader heaven, so many people to catch up with, messing about on the Greenwich Meridian, even ending the day with a Little Tern at Swilly.

Fairly successful visit to Stainburn Forest this afternoon. Year tick Tree Pipit and Cuckoo very easily, two Raven bring chased off by a Lapwing, point-blank Siskin all over the place.

Started with dolphins off Coquet Island. Ended watching the Aurora from the same spot. 83 species in the Amble/Warkworth area in between. I’d say that was one of my better days here. Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club

Two bunting lifers in Tyne & Wear within five days of each other. Unexpected theme.

Third time lucky after two years for the American Black Tern at Long Nanny this afternoon. A (very distant) Red-backed Shrike was a welcome bonus.

Probably the best I could manage of the very mobile Whiskered Tern at Woodhall Spa earlier this afternoon, but a most welcome British tick (313). The Bee Orchids were somewhat easier to photograph. Lincs Wildlife Trust

Unexpected surprise tonight: Lime Hawk-moth in my city centre apartment kitchen.

30 June 2022: Turkestan Shrike and bonus Black-browed Albatross with @otleybirder. Today: we get Black-winged Pratincole (my first of the family in Britain) and a bonus Caspian Tern. Looking forward to 2026 already. @BirdDoncaster

We had a wonderful day at Spurn yesterday. 80ish species including American Golden Plover, Arctic Skua, Little Stint, Pied Flycatcher, Pintail and Caspian Gull 🙂
