We are working on our impact report for the Center for Open Science. Do you have a concrete example about how COS services helped improve the rigor, transparency, or impact of your work or work in your research community? Public or private responses are welcome, and thanks!

I can live with papers being rejected. But not when the main reason for being rejected is that did not find what we had expected. Really rather demotivating when I'm trying to train my PhD students the values of honest reporting, preregistration etc...

Our prospective replication study released! 5 years: 16 novel discoveries get round-robin replication. Preregistration, large samples, transparency of materials. Replication effect sizes 97% the size of confirmatory tests! psyarxiv.com/n2a9x Lead: Protzko @protzko.bsky.social 1/

"Despite the importance of openness and transparency in law, much empirical legal research is still conducted using opaque research practices. This opacity makes it difficult for others to verify and build upon existing findings &..threatens..credibility." osf.io/preprints/lawa…

With credibility of scientists in the public discussion, our PLOS Biology findings are worth a reminder. When scientists like Dr. Fauci update their beliefs with new evidence, it *enhances* their credibility. Updating is the opposite of ideology. 1/ journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…

Upshot: Scientists' public credibility is about their commitment to the pursuit of the truth, not in their already possessing it. Intellectual humility is rewarded and is the basis of scientists earning the public trust.

Our paper reporting a large (N=3759) survey of researchers perceptions of credibility of preprints and preprint services is published today in RSOS. What matters most? Transparency of data, materials, code & evidence of reproducibility. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

Like RPP, Many Labs 5 isn't really about the 10 findings it replicated. It's about the reasonableness of dismissing replication findings by speculating that the replicators messed up. Perhaps ML5 will shift the baseline plausibility of that rejoinder. journals.sagepub.com/eprint/VEZTE8C…

"Parker takes a harder line. “If we don’t expect anything to replicate, why do we bother doing any of this?” he asks. Even before they set up SORTEE, Tim Parker and his corevolutionaries were pushing for change." Learn more at sortee.org sciencemag.org/news/2020/12/p…

The Journal of Politics is phasing in a requirement for all experimental research to be preregistered. I believe that this is just the second journal across the social-behavioral sciences to require preregistration.
