Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., joined Archbishop Ronald Hicks at Our Lady Queen of Angels School for Eucharistic Adoration with PreK–2 students, led by the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. It wasn’t just quiet time — it was time with Our Lord.

Archbishop Hicks called the students “little evangelizers,” saying it was the highlight of his visit.

As we begin our journey through #Lent, let us ask the Lord to grant us the gift of true conversion of heart, so that we may better respond to His love for us and share that love with those around us.

Today we are marked with ashes and so begin this Lenten journey. No matter what you decide to do for Lent, the reason why you are doing it is to renew and strengthen your relationship with the Lord, and to try to help keep God in the center of your life.

If I surveyed you on what you’re going to do for Lent, we would have a hundred thousand different examples. And that’s good! You know what you need. God knows what you need! But no matter what you do, I invite you to reflect on why you are doing it.

This morning, the faithful gathered at Saint Patrick's Cathedral to begin the sacred season of Lent with Ash Wednesday Mass, presided over by Archbishop Hicks. In his homily, Archbishop Hicks reminded us "No matter what you do, I invite you to reflect on why you are doing it."

“Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.” On this Ash Wednesday, Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of New York join the Universal Church in prayer as we mark the beginning of the holy season of Lent, a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal.
