The energy was positive and strong as teachers reflected on a year of *knowledge-building PD* (not make & take activities), critically reflected on how their learning re: research evidence squares w their practice, & made plans to change their ass’t & instruction accordingly! 🌻

This blew my mind, but also solidified my choice to move from 4th to 1st. Core instruction matters most! Prevent those gaps from happening! Laura Stewart The Reading League #cvslearn

ARKANSAS LEADS THE WAY in stating outright that any program based in 3 Cueing will be disqualified from K-2 curriculum approval. More states to follow?

If you are interested in helping your state follow Arkansas’s lead in disqualifying reading curricula grounded in 3 Cueing, encourage stakeholders to listen to Emily Hanford’s audiodocs on Educate, and to watch our Sept Live Event featuring Heidi Beverine-Curry, PhD m.youtube.com/watch?v=SG7sEY…

Heidi Beverine-Curry, PhD Fourth and Fritcher The Reading League Best thread today! Expert demonstrating that it's OK (better than OK!) 4 a seasoned teacher to be constantly thinking/reconsidering, even changing one's mind about how we understand & teach specific details. You seem to be telling me I can be a good teacher & still be learning!

2/n model lifelong prof learning among their seasoned colleagues & admins without fear of retaliation or being silenced. This is 1 way we will disrupt the status quo & change the culture of practice in schools to reflect what the research is teaching us abt what works for kids.

3/3 Keep your eyes on these 2. If you are seasoned, encourage them. If you are new, be inspired by them. The days of keeping your head down & assimilating to instructional norms that conflict w the evidence in order to not rock the boat need to be over. Our kids deserve better.

Check out this excellent new piece about the disconnect between popular commercial programs & the scientific evidence base on reading. It features the voice of Mark Seidenberg, our own Heidi Beverine-Curry, PhD, and other allies, such as Tiffany Peltier, Ph.D.🌸. Exciting times!edweek.org/ew/articles/20…
