People have freedom to offend, whether it be in comedy or in controversial academic subjects. Offense is not permanent harm, and the uncomfortable feelings that come with being offended are a price worth paying to live in a free society.

But this is my plea - in the face of such hateful anti-Semitism, we should resist the call for more laws, more hate crime legislation, more crackdowns on speech. We must face our pernicious cultural problems - we need more, not less, difficult arguments in the public sphere.
