It has come to our attention that many on this platform are looking to pastures new... If you happen to be trying out that other site where the heavens are azure - look us up!

It’s #NationalTreeWeek. ❄🌲 These images show the Wallington Estate & Bardon Mill, Hexham, in Jan 1941. Taken on her walks, Mary snapped these snowy photos of the trees and landscape. 🌨️ These brilliantly wintry trees may remind you of last week's weather! 🥶 📷NRO 11029

We're really pleased to have been re-accredited! 🥳 A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to prepare for accreditation. Accreditation shows that we are meeting national standards and allows us to continue as a public place of deposit. nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-secto….

Northumberland is known for its brilliant landscape and tree, Sycamore Gap. From our archive, for #NationalTreeWeek, here is an image of an impressive Chestnut tree at Hulne Park, Alnwick. 🌳 'Conkers' from the trees, are well-known in British culture with conker games popular.

#HeritageTreasures found during our Everyday Life in a Northumbrian Manor project: List of #HolyIsland tenants absent from the manor courts in 1758. Mr Lewin couldn’t attend, as he was a prisoner in France! Fascinating insight into where residents travelled... The National Lottery Heritage Fund

As part of our Digitally Disrupt the Archives project we invited Computer Gaming students from Northumbria Uni to the #archives. We showed them around and asked them to come up with ideas for games based on what they saw (and fed them 🍕.) Archivist simulator for the win!

This Holocaust Memorial Day we look in our collection at a postcard collected by Mr Thomas Holliday when he visited Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1972. A necessary journey that does not get easier, an unthinkable tragedy that feels incomprehensible today.
