Journalist NeilMackay at The Herald has, in last 3 years, written several long pieces on the historic suffering of children in Scottish boarding schools. I spoke with one of them recently. He extolled Neil's interest & kindness. I thought I would say this publicly.

A horrific and performative exhibition of state cruelty. Politics mediated through the dead eye of Reality TV with the added blank nastiness of social media. How low have we sunk?

Thanks Jim! Whether from a nationalist or unionist perspective, the London coverage of the last week has been very, very poor. The exception to that rule is Times Radio , which has been outstanding, and significantly more informed than the London end of the BBC.

Time of arrival 12 minutes - that's after running out of the briefing room for the early turn parade - NOT 22 minutes. The suspect then needed locating & detaining - after injuring two colleagues with a sword. Amazing response by all involved 👏

The next time the police get something wrong (and they surely will), please remember yesterday.

Some Scots are dunking on this exchange about our tedious politics. But is it worth reflecting then on how well British punditry covers places further afield, perhaps outside the English-speaking world? If you can’t get Scotland, what hope do you have to understand, eg, Ukraine?

The fact we are shocked by this is a positive. It shows we still care about human life. Tapping into this sense of responsibility and other motivators is needed if we want to prevent violence for the long term. Prevention starts with each and everyone of us.

Lots of instant commentary out today eagerly burying Scottish independence. FACT CHECK: Support for Scottish independence on average over the past 10 years since the 2014 indyref has been higher not lower than it was in 2014. And that is true today.

BBC have several times got the 28 day deadline to elect a new First Minister WRONG: on BBC 6pm news, Newsnight, this morning. Seems the BBC as a news platform after 25 years of Scottish devolution cannot get the basics right abt our politics.

What an excellent message - this is a lovely and important statement for a man to make at this time and in this way. Very moving and a great role model moment. Humza should be proud of this and be celebrated for it
