At Nine Ten Publications we publish commercial non-fiction, specifically about art, craft & creativity, and exclusively by Canadian authors. I hadn't thought that our approach to working within a defined niche would be a very American, not very Canadian, thing to do. It's just good sense.

I ❤️ that we designed Nine Ten Publications to highlight Canadian voices & expertise in art & craft. I suppose it's a very American way to define a niche, but there's certainly a Canadian readership for what we're doing, whether the Canadian industry wants to recognize & support it or not.

It hadn't occurred to me that my experiences and frustrations establishing an independent publishing company in Canada might be related to my having working for and with American publishers up to now. A thread about niche publishing and having to go it alone:
