Also very happy to discuss the broader significance of this latest Jake Sullivan-Wang Yi meeting, the 5th in 18 months, with Liu Xin刘欣 on CGTN last night:

After six years and 220 Chaguan columns, it’s time to leave Beijing. It has been an adventure and a privilege. My next beat will include a dose of China, happily: I’ll be writing a new weekly geopolitics column in The Economist. Column number 5 for me economist.com/china/2024/08/…

When in Beijing in July, I visited ⁦⁦CISS Tsinghua⁩ afternoon to record this podcast interview, discussing at length my “origin story” as a scholar of Chinese law, and why I care so deeply about preserving a space for US-China scholarly exchange: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cis…

"Alas, the ideological struggle and fervour, those constant themes of Mao’s era that Deng tried very hard to bury, are back with a vengeance. Deng’s guiding philosophy that pursuing economic development should be the party’s central task is rarely mentioned 30 years on[.]"

Why have U.S.-China relations sunk to this point, what are the major flashpoints ahead, and what are the implications for Europe? Thank you to ⁦Marilisa Anastasopoulou⁩ for hearing me out on these issues, in a podcast interview we recorded in Athens in April: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ti-…

There are no low-level jobs in publishing, which is the most noble profession of all. (This has been a very niche tweet.)
