On this day in 1910, John Armstrong Drexel and William McArdle (pictured) opened only the 2nd flying school in the UK. A few years later, the land at East Boldre, New Forest, would become a RFC training airfield for WW1 pilots.

A brilliant afternoon looking a long lost OB or ammo/explosives store in East Devon with the daughter of an Auxiliary Unit member. Suspicious patches in a field where she remembered the bunker & found this just under the surface on site (can anyone ID)!

When I shared this earlier today... should have mentioned, it belonged to a chap who was awarded a DFC for his actions flying from the Forest. I believe the first to sink a u-boat in an American made B24 Liberator. David Mackie Sleep. Google him, incredible story.

Not a bad venue to give a VE Day themed talk today. Royal Yacht Club on the Beaulieu River…
