I join many #geoscientists saddened by the news of the passing of Prof Leanne Armand Leanne Armand. An absolutely amazing person that made incredible contributions not only to the discipline but through support and mentoring of #WomenInGeoscience in which her legacy will live on.
The horrible irony is the discretionary Ministerial powers that bring #Djokovic back to the Park Hotel prison where 33 refugees remain after 9yrs detention by Australia, could free them in a moment. An exercise of powers the Govt refuses to use for them. 9news.com.au/national/novak…
A couple of months ago, a young woman who grew up in detention on Nauru found her way to Missing Perspectives & asked us to help tell her story. There are a lot of powerful people who won't want you to read this but that's why you have to. She deserves it. bit.ly/3fsrw6s
In the US, 70% of people are worried about climate change but only 8% are activated. Sowing uncertainty is a technique that's been used for decades to keep that gap as big as possible: "if we aren't 100% sure, best to wait." Here's the most recent example. desmog.com/2022/01/28/jor…
Wetlands, like mangroves, are disappearing 3x faster than forests. To #ActforWetlands & combat habitat loss, Bahamas National Trust is leading efforts to restore mangroves ravaged by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. #WorldWetlandsDay (📸: Zaria Dean, Bahamas National Trust)
A few pics of ~5000 hours of fieldwork to establish response of global tidal marshes to SLR. The importance of long-term monitoring and Don Cahoon's vision! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Neil_Saintilan @KerryleeRogers_ Dan Friess glenn guntenspergen Dr Jackie Raw Nicole Cormier and others
An important feat in mangrove research in India. The first set of RSET is installed in Sunderbans. Many more to come. We will soon know how vulnerable the Indian mangroves to the sea level rise. Great to be part of this collaboration effort of Wildlife Institute of India CIFOR IISER Kolkata
