So, talk me through how it works if every single graduate is a male economist or a medic. Where are the jobs for them, and what happens to everyone else and, indeed, everything else that needs to happen in a functional society?

This is both heartbreaking & maddening.
The creative industries account for more than £100bn to UK economy, 15.9% of all UK service exports.; there is more production space here than anywhere in world outside of Hollywood. RT if agree!

Only eleven wealthy tax evaders were prosecuted in the latest year; not one person has yet been prosecuted for the vast state-sanctioned PPE swindle.

Yet carers on tiny incomes face the full hammer of the law. Why is the story always the same? theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

Across England we're handing £9bn a year in housing benefit to private landlords.

In some areas, including some seaside and post-industrial cities and towns, but also Enfield and Brent, over £1 in every £3 of rent paid is paid through HB.

So what's going on??

My first post-PhD paper is out! I hopefully explained the concept of 'low-carbon gentrification' a bit further, identifying three avenues through which heating transitions can reshape inner-city neighbourhoods:

Scrapping this commitment would be hugely damaging - not just for people in fuel poverty, but for housing providers and industry crying out for government leadership and some semblance of certainty on energy efficiency policy. theguardian.com/politics/2024/…

This is a critical point, well made, in latest National Housing Federation advocacy. How do we pay for everything we know we need when fiscal rules reign supreme?

And it's true not just for social housing, but public infrastructure everywhere. Not least in energy and climate resilience too...

'Sustainable aviation fuel' is the opposite of sustainable. Either it snatches food from the mouths of the poor, by converting it into fuel; or it leads to an expansion of the agricultural frontier, which means the felling of forests, draining of wetlands etc.🧵
