Oban to Castlebay. One of the most amazing days I have had. Incredible sight of a raft of 500+ Great Shearwater off Coll and another 100+ later. 300 Sooty and 1 Manx. Shaky video and photos due to a very rough return crossing.

With exceptional numbers of Great Shearwaters in the Hebrides, it was good to get my closest ever views of 8+ Greats, 40+ Sooties, but just 2 Manx with Ewan Miles on the Sea Life Mull boat this morning, along with some nice late season cetacean activity.

We haven’t lost *half of our hedgerows* since the 1940s, we’ve lost pretty much all. With the odd exception, the ‘hedgerows’ that remain are machine-flailed to lifelessness, leaving them useless for wildlife. No width or depth, no cover, no spring blossom, no berries, nada.
