Our cover star for August is Bodiam Castle NT, in a late 18th century view by James Lambert, when the castle was owned by the Websters. Much of the medieval structure is ruined & there is a small house with a garden in the courtyard. nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/67575 #Bodiam100 National Trust South East

And just like that, the first season of excavation Bodiam Castle NT for #Bodiam100 is complete! 🧵 We’ve explored eight trenches to the north and south of the castle over three weeks, chatted with thousands of visitors and spent a very enjoyable time camping on site.

We’ve found 20th century hop gardens, 19th century land drainage, medieval lynchets, Roman / Iron Age routeways & buried prehistoric deposits. Artefacts have been few but highlights include fragments of Roman ceramics & a nail, IA pottery & even a possible sherd of Bronze Age pot

Hi trainline. Your website information doesn’t confirm that I can use a ticket booked for a strike day on a date before / after & I cannot change the booking on that date through your system so I am unclear how to avoid being stranded - please advise!

Today is sadly Martin Papworth’s final day working with the National Trust, and we would like to take this opportunity to showcase some of the amazing research and work he’s undertaken in his 38 years with us. (🧵)

I discovered these wonderful marks, daisy-wheels, one with concentric circles and a trefoil too, all at St Georges Church, Brede, grade 1 listed, C13th.
