There are songs written in response to the bombing of Guernica (Macmillan), the Nazi occupation of France (Poulenc) and two extraordinary songs by Shawn E. Okpebholo about white supremacist attacks on African American church communities in Alabama and Charleston. 3/6

For me the Schumann, in this context, now sounds so much more vital, urgent and vulnerable. Thoughtful programming has the potential to make us listen in new ways, find new things in the music, and can deepen our relationship with pieces we already know and love. 5/6

All of which is to say, if you're free and interested, we are performing this programme at Wigmore Hall at 3pm this Sunday, 7th April. We are so happy to be able to bring this programme to our favourite hall, and it would be great to see lots of people there. 6/6
