Now, we’re finally seeing action that moves beyond the symbolic, and it will be important to consider why some would want to misrepresent and misinform the public.

There was a time when politicians from all political stripes refused to stand at a podium and acknowledge that where they were was the land that belonged to a First Nation

Law firms make significant profits in a landscape of legal uncertainty where the industry must negotiate piecemeal with title & rights holders.

They would be terrified of govt agreements that create certainty by restoring the decision-making role of Indigenous governing bodies.

There is dishonesty to the public when we uphold law firms who (a) primarily work for industry and resource companies and (b) engage in misinformation & misrepresentation as a legitimate source on title and rights implementation.

It's one thing to have concerns and questions about Indigenous title and rights implementation through formal agreements. Still, it’s another thing to confidently and knowingly lie, misrepresent, and misinform the public.

Indigenous Peoples have been public enemy number one in much of Canadian discourse.

It’s only in the last half decade we have had a couple of political parties working to move beyond it.

But the return to it by BC United and BC Conservatives needs to be forcefully rejected.

This is just the same old, tired colonial assimilationist discourse, collapsing Indigenous peoples into settler capitalist categories to legitimate and perpetuate accumulation by dispossession to the manifest benefit of settler 'British Columbians.' Tim's in over his head.
