Happy #NationalWildlifeDay, New York City! A couple years ago I promised New Yorkers: more dolphins, FEWER rats. Proud to report that we're making great progress and seeing MORE of the wildlife we love in the concrete jungle.

GOOD NEWS: Both tunnels are now back open to east/west directions of travel. There will be some residual delays as traffic gets moving in the area. Please be patient.

Only in America does back-to-school mean back-to-school shootings. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by today’s horrific, deadly shooting at Apalachee High School, but thoughts aren’t enough. We need stronger gun laws. Now. apnews.com/article/georgi…

.NYC CLC, AFL-CIO has been such a valuable partner in our efforts to support working-class people. We have stood together, fighting for better wages and benefits for New Yorkers. When we march this weekend, we remind everyone that New York City IS and ALWAYS will be a union

Today, NYC Public Schools students are heading back to school. Be careful when driving and be mindful of the school zone speed limit, which is 20 mph. Slow down, yield to ALL pedestrians, and be sure to 🛑STOP🛑 for school buses.

Sigma Pi Phi is the oldest fraternity for African American men in the country, and they've produced some of our nation's finest leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I was honored to join them today to celebrate the legacy and future of this brotherhood.

This summer, we doubled down on our commitment to protecting public safety, and the data shows our efforts were resoundingly successful. In August, we saw the fewest number of shootings for any August in recorded history AND it was the EIGHTH straight month of overall crime

Happy National Read a Book Day! I had to overcome dyslexia to unlock the power of reading, and I'm grateful every day that I did. NYC Public Schools makes sure ALL our students have the tools to learn how to read and succeed.

Walking down the street must be safe on every block and at every intersection in our city. Thank you to Families For Safe Streets and Councilmember Holden for coming to City Hall this week to discuss ways we can protect people from traffic violence.

This week was the grand opening of 24 new school buildings that will support 11,000 additional student seats. We are literally opening the doors for education and possibility across our city, and we couldn't be prouder. Thank you, New York City School Construction Authority and NYC Public Schools!
