It will be dry with more sunshine today. High temperatures will be about five degrees below normal with mid 50s to the lower 60s in the mountains and mid 60s in the Piedmont. Temperatures will moderate during Tuesday and Wednesday.

A weather system across the southeastern U.S. has brought us a cloudy dreary day, but as expected the bulk of the rainfall remained south of the NC/VA border. Clouds have kept temperatures on the cool side compared to recent days! Sunshine returns for Monday!

Some light rain has begun along/south of the VA/NC line this morning. This continues through the afternoon, with potential for rain to push as far north as the New River Valley. Temps tonight will be near freezing in the mountains, so patchy frost is possible tomorrow morning.

Rainfall on Sunday will fall over primarily southern and southeastern portions of our forecast area. Amounts are expected to average a few hundredths of an inch to around one-tenth of an inch.

Saturday has been a beautiful, sunny, mild day. However, Sunday won't be as nice with clouds, light rain, & chilly temperatures. The culprit is a potent weather system tracking eastward from Texas today to Georgia by Sunday. The bulk of the rain will stay to our south, however.

Clouds will decrease today with sunshine for most by midday into the afternoon. Northwest winds will be gusting to 15 to 25 mph in the mountains/foothills. Highs close to normal for mid-late April.

Thunderstorm Threat Has Ended! Quiet Weather, Yet Much Cooler Conditions Expected This Weekend into Next Week.
The threat for thunderstorms this evening has ended. A few showers will accompany a cold front moving across the area tonight, mainly west of the Blue Ridge.

Thunderstorms this evening? We aren't quite out of the 'woods' yet! Isolated to scattered showers thunderstorms remain possible through the evening hours across SW VA & western NC. Another area to watch will be eastern WV as a cold front advances into that region from the west

Some showers will reach the area this morning from the west, weakening as they cross the Blue Ridge. Increasing chances for showers and storms this afternoon as a cold front moves through the area, but decreasing by midnight. High temperatures today will be in the 70s for most.

There is a Marginal Chance for Severe Weather tomorrow over the southern Appalachians. While we will see some showers and isolated storms during the morning hours, stronger storms may develop in the afternoon and evening, and a few of these may have strong winds and large hail.

A dry front will pass across the area today. Sunny and dry today, with gusty northwest winds.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible mainly for the North Carolina Piedmont. Check out this graphic to see what to do in a damaging wind event.

Another warm day is in the cards today, though it will be cloudy with a few isolated showers possible this afternoon.
