Warm conditions leading into the fall can create additional fly pressure on your cattle. Listen to Dr. Stokka discuss strategies to control horn, face, and stable flies on last week's #SoundAgAdvice episode. soundagadvice.transistor.fm/52

Questions about fall-applied nitrogen coming in. Soil temperatures in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota (NDAWN) are still too warm for anhydrous ammonia or urea, with weekend forecast looking even warmer. Wait to apply nitrogen to reduce potential losses.

Most common mistakes when grazing cereal rye is not getting on it early enough and not having high enough stocking density! Once it gets going it grows fast and recovers fast. Start at 5 inches and 0.5 to 1 cow/acre. Rotating totally pays! UNL Beef (assuming we get some rain!🤞)

MS position at NDSU Department of Animal Sciences with myself and Miranda Meehan evaluating impacts of supplementation frequency of stocker cattle in an extensive winter grazing system. This project will measure cattle performance, forage production, soil health, and economics.

Planning on grazing winter cereals this spring? How are they looking? The rye on our NDSoybean project has really popped with good moisture and heat! We are looking at starting to graze next week.

Excited to get started on some virtual fence research tomorrow at the NDSU Central Grasslands Research Extension Center with Dr. Kevin Sedivec and Dr. Zac Carlson! We will be using the the virtual fence to do some patch or leaky fence grazing.

Checked on our steers at NDSU Central Grasslands Research Extension Center. These steers were backgrounded on diets replacing distillers grains with heat-treated soybean meal. Now waiting to see if there will be any residual impacts on meat characteristics.

Plan now for bale-grazing success: Moving bales from the hayfield directly to a staging area adjacent to where they will be fed or, if possible, within the pasture can save time, fuel, and labor this winter. bit.ly/EH-230812-C

Great weather to start off our bale grazing trial funded by NDSoybean. We certainly don't need these propane heaters right now, but something tells me we will soon. Miranda Meehan
