Jenni Rawlinson Mrs Bella Saunders MCCT Nikki McGee The RE Today Services Whose Worldview tool is great for this. I have asked students to complete with parents so they can compare too and engage those at home in what we are studying which has really helped with getting them on board whoseworldviews.com #REChatUK

Sally Brooman Psychological safety claxon alert!!! We started our teacher-led framework with personal knowledge for this reason - it's so, so easy to make assumptions when you don't have clarity & critical awareness of your own positionality as the educator... #rechatuk

Sally Brooman Students complete their own WVs lens so they understand what factors influence it. It’s important we teach students to acknowledge what they bring to the study of R&W. Students now are starting to ask but ā€˜why do you think that? What has influenced you to believe that?’ #REChatUK

Nikki McGee Charlotte Newman Mrs Bella Saunders MCCT Give them something new and ask them to use the tools they've been taught. E.g. a new text and what theological questions could we ask (and answer) about this or some different census data #REchatUK

Gillian Georgiou Charlotte Newman Mrs Bella Saunders MCCT Olivia Seymour I used this to help me rewrite our trust wide assessments to have a more disciplinary approach. It was super helpful, thankyou Gillian Georgiou & Olivia Seymour . Our students are about to sit them so I can review whether my vision worked and start refining for next year. #REChatUK

Gillian Georgiou Sally Brooman Great point. I think there is also an issue of engagement - when students are presented with information they appear less engaged than when you present them with 'real life' questions, issues and experiences. They want to know more. #REChatUK

Sally Brooman NATRE Gillian Georgiou I really wanted to look into this for my Culham St Gabriel’s but my research would have been far bigger scope than the project required! Fascinated by how a teachers’ personal WV influences their curriculum choices and design #REChatUK

Nikki McGee Gillian Georgiou Mrs Bella Saunders MCCT Olivia Seymour Completely agree. If curriculum is a progression model then it is imperative that your assessments serve as a basis to verify whether your curriculum is working and doing what you envisioned #REChatUK

Jenni Rawlinson Gillian Georgiou Learners much more engaged when they're trying to ask and answer qs. They feel "grown up" when tylethey ask qs in a specific s. They're also very invested in case studies. One Y5 learner was so interested in modern martyrs, she went home and learned about all 10! #REChatUK

Sally Brooman This is tricky - any new approach takes time to bed down and we need to give it time (cf EEF guidance on implementing change). Not just about developing our approach to teaching RE, but supporting colleagues to invest in the journey... #rechatuk

Sally Brooman I have found this difficult too as I have lots of non specialists teaching RS in my Trust. I have made them a brief how to guide on the R&W approach, outlined our curriculum principles and given top tips but I definitely need more time for proper CPD #REChatUK

Mrs Saunders MCCT (@missavecarter) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Charlotte Newman Sally Brooman Proper CPD needs to be sustained too. One-off sessions are not good enough for embedding habit-changes. I've been working on this loads in my new role as AHA for whole staff T&L. It is all about carving out time for staff development. #rechatuk

Sally Brooman I am lucky that my department are dedicated RE teachers, so for me this has meant that we have looked through the documentation together, discussed it, and outlined what we want units to look like before the main planning takes place. That way we are on the same page #REChatUK
