The right to protest peacefully is a foundational component of our democracy. VCU Students should be allowed to uphold the principles of free speech & peaceful assembly. I hope we do not see a recurrence of violent repression as other schools have.

These students are exercising their first amendment right to protest - they are not a threat to public safety. This violent response is dangerous and totally uncalled for. Law enforcement can maintain safety without force and without using chemical agents on unarmed protesters.

.Andreas D. Addison put out a release spotlighting his Land Value Tax proposal. Under that idea, the city would shift to primarily taxing land itself instead of the value of buildings on it. (The city already has the power to do this under a General Assembly bill passed in 2020)

My main takeaway from this back and forth over Kenneth Ray Newsome is that both of these candidates are too naive to be in charge of our city.
