#gtchat Q1... You could start with helping them to establish some personal strategies, such as: organization and ways that work best for them in terms of studying. A lot of gifted kids don't really know how to study, if they aren't challenged properly and regularly.

#gtchat Karen Chick A4 Many kids are seen as underachievers because they aren't properly challenged becoming bored and complacent. If self-regulation strategies are learned, a student can positively affect their learning by taking responsibility for what and how they learn.

#gtchat Karen Chick Karen Chick Parents can help by modeling at home. Acts such as time management, scheduling routines like when paying their bills, etc. can help.. They can reassure their gifted child that perfection isn't the goal, instead personal best should be the focus.

#ccsedchat A2) I don't know that I always make a conscious choice. Sometimes implicit learning of another concept happens during the explicit teaching of something else. The biggest thing that influences me is what they are learning and if I feel the need to teach or facilitate.

#ccsedchat A4) Hopefully, they are watching, asking questions, sharing ideas, etc. I don't mind interruptions if they want to share or need clarity. Actively being a part of what's being taught/learned is very important to me. I like to see the wheels turning in their brains.

A1) I think most people feel that because gifted kids are "smart" that they will be fine no matter what, so their needs are put on the back burner if addressed at all.

#NCCATBookTalk I just finished my NCCAT book talk course,The Choice by Dr. Edith Eger. I found the book to be insightful, eye-opening, and inspiring. Elizabeth Joyce was quick to grade assignments and gave great feedback. Overall, I'd recommend this course above any other.

If we want our students to be successful then we have to remember it's not just memorizing anymore. They need to be able to learn, unlearn, and relearn.
