So proud of my research writers! Students partnered up to research a place of interest. To narrow their research, students focused on two reasons why they would love to visit their place of interest and recorded their notes on a T chart @30Q398 District 30

Students now understand that people who have the growth mindset show persistence, courage and effort. They worked collaboratively to construct a thinking map, where they described how they can show examples of these elements in their everyday life @30Q398 District 30

With math becoming more challenging, hands on learning is even more important. Today students used a math mat and base ten blocks to help them add two digit numbers using place value. This hands on approach made regrouping easier to conceptualize @30Q398 District 30

Today, we learned about some influential women and worked on creating posters that highlight their contributions. Students will be walking with their posters during our very own Women’s March, later this week 💗

Today was a GREAT. After learning about Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor, we welcomed her into our classroom several hours later, on Zoom. Justice Sotomayor talked to us about the importance of her job, as well as the importance of civic engagement @30Q398 Jenna Ryall

My second graders painted and decorated both a picture frame and ceramic magnet for their moms. They also created cards of their own (didn’t get a picture 😢) The magnets were a hit this year 💝 @30Q398

With the help of the 34th Avenue Coalition, we planted sunflowers 🌻 By the time we return in September, our sunflowers will be blooming. We can’t wait to see how tall they’ll become! @30Q398 @30Q398 34AveOpenStreets

After learning about the election process, students engaged in a mock election. They each casted a ballot on behalf of their assigned state for a candidate, whose promises best align with their personal interests. I’m so glad they got to experience the electoral process 🗳@30Q398
